A tragic incident in Wantirna South, Victoria, has resulted in the death of a female pedestrian after a vehicle struck her and crashed into a café at a local shopping centre.
The collision occurred on Burwood Highway at approximately 12:45 p.m., when a car reportedly hit the woman before continuing into the café premises. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
A diner who had been seated outside the café at the time of the crash was assessed by Ambulance Victoria paramedics at the scene. Their condition has not been reported as life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old woman from Wantirna, along with her female passenger, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment.
Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and have begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have stated that the incident is not believed to have been intentional.
A crime scene has been established as investigators work to determine how the events unfolded. At this stage, the identity of the deceased woman has not been publicly released.
